A Pakistani passport is among the world's most restricted — roughly 30 visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations — so the demand for a mobility upgrade is real. But there is a rule specific to Pakistan that has to come first, because it can quietly undo an expensive plan.
Read this before you compare programs: the dual-nationality list
Pakistan permits dual citizenship only with a designated list of countries under bilateral arrangements. The United Kingdom is on that list; the Caribbean citizenship-by-investment states generally are not. In practice that means:
- Taking Caribbean CBI (St Kitts, Dominica, Grenada, Antigua) can put your Pakistani citizenship at risk, because those countries are not on the approved list.
- A route through the UK is compatible with keeping your Pakistani passport.
This is the kind of constraint a generic "cheapest passport" page never mentions — and it can be the difference between a second passport and an accidental loss of your first. Confirm the current designated-country list with Pakistan's official authorities before committing.
Routes that fit
- UK Ancestry visa — if you have a grandparent born in the UK, you can live and work in Britain for five years, settle, and naturalize. Compatible with dual nationality, and far cheaper than investment migration.
- European residence (golden visas) — Portugal (€500,000 fund), Greece (€400,000 real estate), Hungary (€250,000 fund certificates) build EU residence without forcing an immediate citizenship choice.
- Caribbean CBI — the largest raw mobility jump (visa-free Schengen and UK), but only after you have resolved the dual-nationality question above.
Cost in context
Investment migration is a six-figure decision; the honest comparison is against years of visa friction and restricted work travel. Add government, due-diligence, and per-dependant fees to any headline minimum.
A tax note (informational, not advice)
Pakistan taxes on a residence basis, and your tax position turns on where you actually live and your day-counts, not on which passports you hold. Take Pakistani and destination-country tax advice before relocating.

Citizenship by descent (informational)
Some Pakistan holders may have a citizenship-by-descent route if a parent or grandparent was born abroad. pass2port publishes sourced guides to those rules — we do not check whether you qualify. For investment and residence pathways ranked to your passport, use the quiz below.
Tax context for Pakistan holders
Pakistan uses a residence-based tax system at the national level. Moving residence or acquiring another citizenship can change what you owe — this is a pointer, not advice.
Common questions
- Does Pakistan allow dual citizenship?
- Only with a specific list of designated countries under bilateral arrangements (which includes the United Kingdom, but not the Caribbean CBI states). If you naturalize in a country not on Pakistan's approved list, you may be unable to retain Pakistani citizenship — verify the current list with official sources before acting.
- Is the UK Ancestry route available to Pakistanis?
- Yes in principle — Pakistan is a Commonwealth member, so a holder with a UK-born grandparent may qualify for the UK Ancestry visa, a residence route leading to settlement and then citizenship. The UK is on Pakistan's dual-nationality list, so this route is compatible with keeping Pakistani citizenship.
- Which routes give the biggest travel-freedom uplift?
- Caribbean citizenship-by-investment adds the most visa-free access relative to a Pakistani passport, but check the dual-nationality compatibility first.
